Praia da Luz
Praia da Luz is the name of the tourist village and beach located about 3km from Lagos (Algarve, Portugal) it has a fabulous sandy beach with a palm-lined promenade. It is a holiday location for many Portuguese, English, French and German people. Praia da Luz is an intermediate size beach with two disctinct zones: the fine, clean and white sand characteristic of Algarve beaches and the “rock zone”. There are cliffs and rock pools as well as several bars cafes and restaurants. The water is clean and transparent. With numerous beach activities for the more energetic to enjoy.
This is a Blue Flag Beach, a Blue Flag status is awarded to beaches that adherence to water quality standards, safety, the provision of services and general environmental management, its a standart used in more than 30 Countries.
History
The Vila of Luz was a fishing village, but it’s foundation remotes to a roman setlement that had a small bath complex, and several fish-salting tanks, this were found near the foreshore in the Waterside developement.
It also boasts a 17th Century coastal fort, which is now a restaurant, called Fortaleza (Fort).

From Faro airport the drive is about 45minutes to 1hour along the new motorway.
